Draycott and Surrounding Area

The village of Draycott is to be found approximately 2 miles East of Cheddar and 6 miles West of Wells on the A371.

The village shop/post office is within easy walking distance of The Dairy and sells most items including daily papers. The Strawberry Special public house is also within easy walking distance, but does not offer a full menu, mainly snacks etc.

The next village of Rodney Stoke is also the home of an excellent gastro pub The Inn at Rodney Stoke. Well worth the short drive, but book in advance to avoid disappointment. Cheddar has a wealth of eateries including Chinese, Indian and traditional pub meals. There is a folder in The Dairy which contains details of a large selection of these establishments.

The Shapwick & Meare Heath nature reserves are a 30 minute drive and in early November you can see the “ Starling Roosts” that have featured in past BBC “Autumn Watch” programmes. Cheddar Resevoir, which is a haven for Sea Birds is only 10 minutes drive and has a footpath around the edge which is approximately 2 miles long.

Cheddar Gorge with its caves and walks is only 2 miles away and for the energetic can be reached from The Dairy by following the West Mendip Way footpath over the top of the Mendips.

Wells with its cathedral is well worth a visit as is the Clarke’s Shopping Village at Street which is approximately 8 miles to the South West.

Bristol, Bath and Weston Super-Mare are all within 15 miles of The Dairy and are all well worth a visit..
